Alejandro is a multi-instrumentalist performer and teacher. Born to Venezuelan and Colombian parents and raised in Miami, he has called Chicago home since 2010.
Alejandro studied jazz guitar in college but attributes much of his skill to the knowledge he gained on the bandstand. He has performed in a wide variety of musical settings; from heavy metal bands, to experimental jazz combos, to traditional Classical Arabic ensembles and orchestras.
Most recently, he was on the national tour of the Tony Award winning musical The Band’s Visit as the musical swing covering oud, guitar, darbuka, riq, and frame drum.
Before going on the road, Alejandro taught as a guitar and oud instructor at the Old Town School of Folk Music and in Chicago Public Schools through Ravinia’s Reach*Teach*Play program.
His teaching philosophy is to find what interests and inspires his students and build a method based on solid musical foundations to help them explore those interests. Whether it’s developing better technique, learning music theory, or composing, Alejandro guides his students through these subjects with the ultimate goal of helping them find their own musical voice.
