  • YOUR WEEKLY TEACHER, ALEC:

    ALEC teaches Classical Guitar, Music Theory, and Arranging, all levels.
    He also teaches Fingerstyle Guitar, Ukulele and Composition (beginner-intermediate).
    Each lesson is 55 minutes.

    Alec is a passionate and dedicated guitarist, composer, and teacher, who’s “depth of musical sensitivity is allied with technical clarity, coupled with warmth and generosity” (Ken Sugita, Violinist French National Orchestra-Lille). 

    A winner of the 2016 MU Emerging Artist Competition, Alec has performed solo concerts all over the world including the U.S., Canada, and Europe. He gave his international debut in 2015 when he was invited to perform and give master-classes as a guest artist at the Zobel Gitarrenschule in Bad Nauheim Germany and his performance at The Benton Club in St. Joseph Missouri was critically acclaimed to be “a highlight of the concert season, [and] a resounding success” (President, Missouri Music Hall of Fame). 

    Alec received his Bachelor in Music from the University of Missouri where he attended as an Evans Scholar and studied under Anthony Glise. He completed his Masters in Guitar Performance from McGill University in Montreal, QC, where he studied with world-renowned guitarist Jerome Ducharme. Additionally, throughout his formal years, Alec has attended and performed in countless master-classes where he took lessons from some of the world’s leading guitarists including David Russell, Jason Vieaux, David Leisner, Jorge Morel, and Martha Masters. A dedicated teacher, Alec has accumulated over 6 years of experience both as a school teacher, and a private guitar instructor. Teaching students of all ages and skill levels, Alec is devoted to bringing inspiration to all his students through sharing his knowledge and love of music.

    DEANNA teaches Electric Guitar, Acoustic Guitar, Folk, Singing/Songwriting, Pop/Contemporary (all levels.). She also teaches Fingerstyle Acoustic for beginners.
    Each lesson is 55 minutes.

    Deanna is a multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, composer, and producer. While teaching, she believes that a “learning by ear” approach is a fundamental aspect to guitar playing and songwriting. She helps train her students’ “musical ear” using songs they wish to learn and through these songs she teaches chords, rhythm, strumming patterns, fingerpicking/picking, and songwriting/performance skills. She’s a patient teacher with students of all levels who are wishing to learn either acoustic or electric guitar and for those who are inspired to write and perform their own material.
    A prolific songwriter, her original music beautifully blends downtempo beats with organic instrumentation, creating emotionally captivating music that has been resonating with audiences across the globe. Deanna’s polished musicianship, modern production techniques and compelling songwriting emanates a maturity and sophistication that spans across electronic, R&B, neo-soul, jazz and orchestral territories. Following the success of her highly acclaimed EP “half and half”, Deanna unveiled her single “Lately”, an alluring neo-soul track featuring D.Lylez (a top 24 contestant on The Voice season 18). Her next single is soon to be released and more are to come.
    Deanna has seen success performing to sold-out venues and festivals across the map, such as Summerfest, CMJ, NXNE, and 80/35. She has had the pleasure of opening for renowned artists including Jamie Cullum, Bonobo and SG Lewis, as well as Raveena, Mother Mother and Yoke Lore. The composer has recently explored more commercial work, scoring for both feature & short films, as well as composing music for podcasts, animation videos, and even a Starbucks ad. One of her original songs, “A Beautiful View” is in the new feature film “Tom of Your Life”.

    JEFF teaches Electric Guitar, Acoustic Guitar, Jazz, Rock, Blues, Folk, R&B, Funk, Pop, Music Theory & Composition, Jazz Theory & Arranging skillset (intermediate to advanced).
    He also teaches beginner Fingerstyle in the following styles: pop/folk/brazilian.

    Jeff has been teaching and helping students learn in the Chicagoland area and beyond for over a decade. In addition to maintaining a private in-person and online studio since 2008, he has been a faculty member at Christopher Laughlin School of Music, Joan Stegmann’s Academy of the Arts, and suburban staple Hix Brothers Music. Also a previous member of Foundations of Music Jazz Clinic Quartet, Jeff has performed and given workshops in many of Chicago’s public and private schools. Along with teaching locally, he has also been a featured clinician at universities and schools across the country including Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, University of Colorado Boulder, Northern Illinois University, and Denver Schools of the Arts. Through teaching strong fundamentals and embracing each student’s individuality and passions, Jeff’s studio has had a wide array of successes seeing former students go on to study and perform professionally.

    She does not teach Baroque Guitar.

    Salomé is a music teacher native of Venezuela, who recently became an American citizen. Salomé holds a master’s degree in music, majoring in classical guitar (MTSU) and a graduate diploma in voice and lute (Longy School of Music). Salomé has taught private and classroom lessons in Spanish and English for over 20 years, with a strong emphasis on parent/student co-teaching and learning, social outreach, and technology. In addition to singing in church services, Salomé’s specialty is singing and self-accompanying with different kinds of guitars and lutes. As a teacher Salome loves tailoring lessons to fulfill the needs of a diverse group of students, using the latest technology to appeal to younger generations as well as giving students live performance experiences. Believing that it is never too early or too late to learn a musical instrument, she thrives on helping students succeed in their personal and academic goals. She understands that every student learns in a different way, and bases her teaching on the different sensory styles of learning.     Jon is a specialist in plucked string instruments, is a native of New York, and currently based in Madrid. He started his musical studies at the age of 10. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Classical Guitar and Ethnomusicology and a Masters Degree in Historical Plucked String Instruments, both from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University as well as, the completion of the “formación continuada” program at Escola Superior de Music de Catalunya.

    Jon has been teaching private and classroom lessons for over 8 years. Having a diverse musical background and upbringing allows him to tailor lessons for individual students of all ages, musical interests, and skill levels.

    He has studied with world-renowned lutenists such as Nigel North and Xavier Diaz Lattore. His previous teachers include Petar Jankovic, Christopher Gotzenberg (Classical Guitar), Ikhlaq Hussain (Sitar), and Steven Rickards (Voice).

    Jon has experience performing historical plucked string instruments, such as theorbo, lutes, vihuela, 5-course guitar, and 4-course guitar, in addition to acoustic/electric/classical guitars, mandolin, banjo, ukulele, sitar, and bass.
